Sustainability Policy- Weddings and Events
March 2024 Version 2
Composting
All green waste (flowers/plant material) are composted at a local charity in Abingdon, within walking distance from our shop, this is then used in their community gardens and has had a huge effect reducing our landfill waste by over half.
Recycling
All cardboard and plastic is recycled by returning packaging to our supplier for re-use and recycling.
Packaging
2 years ago we opted for a biodegradable cellophane to package our bouquets for a more sustainable option. Our wrapping also includes UK produced brown kraft paper, which is branded in water based inks. Making this 100% Biodegradable.
Floral Foam
In 2021 we changed to using Oasis Bio floral foam which as been shown by ASTM D5511 to biodegradable up to 91% in 1100 days.
Techniques
For Fabulous flowers is it important to maintain a high standard of work, we have investigated and trialed alternative, reusable mechanics for our floral designs during this wedding season, achieving a sustainable offering without compromising the overall look.
Chelsea Flower Show 2021
Fabulous Flowers was selected to show at Chelsea Flower Show 2021, earning ourselves a Silver Gilt Medal to
showcase a sustainable and eco friendly floristry exhibit.
Flower Grower
Using, local English grown flowers as much as possible is very important to us, it not only gives us a beautiful variety, it also enables that extra amount of creativity whilst working alongside our clients ideas. Local Growers include, Dahlia Beach and Anna Brown Flowers.
Visit the Flower Field Experiences
We offer a visit the flower field experiences, to our couples, who can come and see where their wedding flowers actually come from. They can even take home a bespoke fresh cut bouquet!
Dutch Flowers
When season is low within the UK, we do back up flowers with dutch stock, using growers who sustainably grow flowers, with natural pesticides and eco friendly heating and lighting, ran from bore hole technology
Location Change
In October 2020 Fabulous flowers moved out of the city centre to a more economical site, reducing our heating and electricity usage by 75%.
