Party at The Bodleian Library
We recently had the absolute privilege of designing the florals and décor for a truly spectacular celebration at the iconic Bodleian Library in Oxford. This wasn’t just any party; it was a Studio 54-inspired soirée, brimming with glamour, decadence, and joy for a special couple who we are lucky to call friends.
Working alongside the incredible teams at Fine Planning and Oxford Fine Dining, we set out to transform one of Oxford’s most historic venues into a dazzling disco paradise—a fusion of Old-World grandeur and New York’s 1970s nightlife.
A Vision of Luxe and Glam
The theme was clear from the start: high-octane glamour with a touch of opulence. Drawing inspiration from Studio 54’s legendary parties, we curated a design that embraced metallics, reflective surfaces, and a bold palette of black, gold, and rich jewel tones.
The Bodleian’s stunning architecture set the stage, its soaring ceilings and stone walls providing a dramatic contrast to the shimmering, modern aesthetic we brought in. A canopy of projected lights danced across the ceiling, evoking the energy of a disco ball and enhancing the grandeur of the space.
Floral Design that Danced
Florals were at the heart of this transformation. The tables featured lush arrangements of gilded foliage, golden monstera leaves, and shimmering accents paired with glossy black linens and mirrored surfaces. Each centerpiece was crowned with suspended floral orbs and reflective disco balls, adding a breathtaking vertical element that seemed to float above the tables.
The tablescapes were further elevated with golden candlesticks, crystal glassware, and elegant black-and-gold place settings. These luxurious details worked in harmony to create an atmosphere of sophistication and sparkle, ensuring every guest felt part of something extraordinary.
Details That Dazzled
No Studio 54 party would be complete without some sparkle and shine. Mirrored disco balls hung throughout the space, their reflections scattering light in every direction and creating a magical, almost ethereal ambiance. The lighting design was carefully curated to highlight the architectural beauty of the venue while adding a warm, golden glow that perfectly complemented the glamorous decor.
The dance floor—the heart of any Studio 54 event—was framed by towering floral arrangements and shimmering drapes. With its bold design and inviting energy, it became the focal point of the evening, drawing guests in to celebrate and dance the night away.
Collaboration is Key
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of some truly exceptional teams. Fine Planning ensured every element of the evening was flawlessly orchestrated, while Oxford Fine Dining delighted guests with a menu as decadent as the decor. Together, we created an experience that our dear friends—and their guests—will cherish forever.
A Celebration of Love and Friendship
As we reflect on this magical evening, we feel immensely grateful to have been part of such a joyous occasion. Designing for people we hold close to our hearts made this event all the more meaningful. Seeing the Bodleian Library transformed into a Studio 54 dreamscape was a true testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and love.
